I’m assuming it’s their algorithm behind this offer. This is so unhelpful, there is absolutely no good will here, and I find it kinda greedy. Their regular savings account interest rate of 0.7% is atrocious. Tangerine is looking more and more like the big 5 banks. Makes me think of TD HISA I had 15 years ago giving me 0.5%.

Confirmed by Tangerine rep on the phone, they only look at the savings account balance for the promos. Of course it's ideal to move it to EQ or another higher interest rate account while you wait but for simplicitys sake it can just be moved to a Tangerine Chequing account.. they usually send you another promo code within a week.

After Scotiabank bought them out their interest offering plummeted, and I closed all my accounts maybe 5 years ago when at that time they were the worst on the market for high-interest savings. I remember my account being at 0.125%/a when I finally pulled the trigger, while the online bank I transferred to was offering 2%.
