Welcome to the Swannay Brewery, where we make award-winning beers of all styles from our rustic farmstead in the northwesterly tip of Orkney’s mainland. Our flagship beer - the one Rob brewed first and still the beer we brew the most. Scapa Special is a classic pale ale with wide appeal.

Where do we begin... Swannay Scapa Special is our flagship 4.4% Pale Ale, brewed with Bobek and Willamette hops and a blend of three different malts. It was the first beer we ever brewed and is still our most popular. Serve cold, drink fresh, and enjoy.

Q: What makes Scapa Special a classic Pale Ale?

Three malts and five hops - from Britain, Germany and the US - make Scapa Special a classic pale ale. Orkney comprises of 70 islands, 17 or 18 of which are inhabited. Each unique in its own way, locals and tourists travel internally by both sea and air.

Q: Who owns Swannay farm?

Our founder Rob Hill - ever the collector - first came to Swannay Farm in 2003 looking to buy the old time clock. One year later, after being let-go from his then current head brewer job, he somehow bought the whole building complex and started to think about how to make beer at Swannay.
