As others have noted, a Series 80 trigger will be inherently less crisp (and heavier) than a 1911 without a firing pin block. It's pure physics. That being said, I own one Series 80 1911 and it has a very crisp 3.5# break. It's also a full house gunsmith build I spent $4k on back in 1995.

The big thing is the right tools. Aside from the obvious drill press and usual hand tools, you will absolutely need a 1911 safe sided file, a barrel fitting kit (Kart makes a good beginner kit), misc other files, and a good digital caliper. Get yourself a copy of the kuhnhausen manual and some 1911 blueprints.

May 18, 2020 · The end result was a very smooth fit and no side to side movement between the frame and slide. I've noticed this fit is the difference between an expensive 1911, and a lower budget 1911. The SA TRP 1911 I have is very tight in this area, whereas the other 1911 which comes in at about half the price has play.
